Ian Moore, owner of Big Boy’s Toys in Nanoose Bay, B.C., was presented with the prestigious 2013 Canadian RV Dealer of the Year Award yesterday at the Canada Night Dinner held in Louisville, Ky., in conjunction with the National RV Trade Show.
Moore said was very moved as his name was called and he graciously accepted his award while surrounded by friends and colleagues at the event held by the RVDA of Canada.
He added, as RV Lifestyle Magazine, presented him with the Walter Paseska Memorial Canadian RV Dealer of the Year Award.
Each year, RVDA of Canada, in conjunction with RV Lifestyle Magazine and Dealer News, invites nominations from across Canada for the Canadian RV Dealer of the Year Award. The award is dedicated to the memory of the late Walt Paseska, founder of Walt’s Trailer Sales in Headingley, Manitoba, in recognition of his many years of commitment and dedication to the RV industry. Since established in 1989 by Camping Canada Magazine, this award has been presented to individuals who share Paseska’s enthusiasm and commitment, in recognition of their long-term contribution to the RV lifestyle, and commitment to the community as a whole.
The award is presented to a candidate who has:
- Demonstrated long-term dedication to the RV industry and promotion of the RV lifestyle by the acting dealer principal of a recognized full service RV dealership
- Shown commitment and participation in the RVDA at the provincial or national level
- Been recognized by customers and peers as a person with the highest integrity and credibility in both work and personal life
- Made a contribution to their community
Ian Moore is the president and owner of Big Boys Toys Ltd., a Vancouver Island, B.C. owned RV business, which has been serving the island for over 30 years. His home base is Nanoose Bay, B.C. where he, his wife and his three young sons, aged 14, 11 and 6 reside.
Moore has a background in land management and development where he spent many years working for his families businesses. During his career he assisted with a wide breadth of projects mainly located in the Greater Victoria area where he participated in land sales and construction management. Ians experience also includes rental management for his families various rental properties.
“Over the course of the last 15 years, Ian has focused on his career in the RV industry where he continues to grow his company,” said Eleonore Hamm, president of RVDA of Canada. “In 1998, Ian and his family purchased 50 percent of the shares in Big Boy’s Toys, Ltd., and subsequently purchased the remaining shares of the company in 2001. Since Ian became involved in the company, Big Boy’s Toys has more than doubled its number of employees, now providing employment for 15 full-time personnel.”
In July 2000, the company moved from a 1-acre leased property to its current 8 acres in the Nanoose area, and now consists of a large business office/showroom, a 2,000-square-foot parts store and a 5,000-square-foot service department.
“As a business owner, he takes pride in his business and does his best to meet the unique needs of each of his customers. Over the course of Ian’s years in business, he has had many opportunities to involve himself in local and national RV industry matters,” said Hamm. “He has shown an exceptional level of professionalism and integrity and has always committed himself wholeheartedly to the various committees and organizations he has been a part of.”
Moore was with the RVDA of British Columbia for a number of years having sat on the board as treasurer for two terms, as vice-president for two terms and as president for one term. Following his term as president, Moore continued as past-president of the organization for an additional two terms. He has also involved himself on the national level and has served on the RVDA of Canada as a director, treasurer, vice chair, chair and is the association’s current past chair.
Big Boy’s Toys continues to be an active member of the Better Business Bureau as well as a supporter of the local Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Big Boy’s Toys has been an active supporter of local food banks over the last five years and together with support from numerous local businesses, has been successfully assisting the organizations through the companies’ annual “Help Fill the MoHo with Food Campaign”. This effort ended with a combined total of 11,500 pounds of food being delivered to local food banks during their demanding season.
“Ian’s enthusiasm for the RV industry, his pride and integrity as well as his passion and commitment have made him an ideal recipient of the prestigious 2013 Canadian RV Dealer of the Year Award,” said Hamm.
